Started off yesterday on Route 66 through Chicago and hitting all the burbs of Chicago. I was surprised at how nicely the signs were marked, but still kept my handy dandy map and instructions with me.
We saw the Gemini Man, the Sinclair Dinosaur and ate at the Polka Dot Cafe, where Jim posed with the ladies. Then on to Pontiac and some very nice murals and a quaint Route 66 Museum.
It was then that we realized we would never get to St. Louis if we did not get on Route 55 and we had to bypass some areas. In St. Louis in time for a stroll and the Chess Hall of Fame area. We were staying at the Holiday Inn Express in the West Side, nice community. Beat Jim in a game of chess and then solidly beaten by Jim twice. I only beat him when we are on vacation.
It took me over a day to get through Illinois. I stayed with a friend closer to the MO border and then backtracked in the morning because I wanted to see everything in the daylight. All of those Illinois towns can take forever! ~ Kyle
