Route 66 starts soon from Chicago to LA

My husband and I start our journey soon, on Route 66, though I have tried to keep it a lite itinerary it seems that the more I read the more I want to do.  I am hoping to download pictures to mark our adventures through this iconic highway.  If anyone has any travel suggestions for this road please let me know, I will be happy for any input. 

So My Bags are Packed I'm Ready to Leave, are just some of the song lyrics running through my head. they include On the Road Again, Dancing Across the USA , and of course I Get My Kicks on Route 66.   I have at least 28 songs downloaded, several books and hopefully the car I rent allows me to bluetooth or connect my phone to the car.
